Marine FC striker Taiba Mbonyumwami has helped Rubavu-based side secure a 3-1 victory over AS Muhanga, a result that confirmed AS Muhanga’s relegation to the second division.

Mbonyumwami opened the scoring in the 25th minute to give Marine FC the lead. However, AS Muhanga responded just before halftime through Onesme Twizerimana, who equalized in the 45th minute to make it 1-1 at the break.

Marine FC regained control in the second half when Confiance Mukire scored the second goal in the 75th minute. Mbonyumwami then sealed the victory deep into stoppage time with his second goal of the match in the 94th minute.

After celebrating his second goal— by removing his shirt— Mbonyumwami was shown a red card.

Marine FC secured all three points and moved to eighth place in the league standings with 45 points while the defeat confirmed AS Muhanga’s relegation to the second division after finishing the season with 31 points.

Meanwhile, Rutsiro FC also suffered the same relegation after losing 1-0 to Bugesera FC, joining AS Muhanga in dropping to the second tier.
