The Kicukiro Primary Court has ruled in favor of Idrissa Ouedraogo in a legal suit against his wife, Ishimwe Vestine, ordering cross-border DNA collection and guaranteeing regular photographic updates regarding their minor child.
In a judgment delivered on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the court affirmed that Ouedraogo’s suit was well-founded under Article 48 of the Law governing persons and the family.
The court noted that Vestine consented to Ouedraogo’s key requests—which included mandatory biological testing and increased photographic access—agreeing that the terms serve the best interests and overall well-being of their child, Ishimwe Nollah.
Under the court order, DNA samples for Nollah will be officially collected in Canada, where the child currently resides with the mother, and transmitted to Rwanda. The biological comparison will be analyzed by the Rwanda Forensic Institute (RFI) alongside Ouedraogo’s samples.
Additionally, the ruling mandates that Vestine provide Ouedraogo with regular photos of the child, increasing the frequency beyond what he had previously received.
