Rwandan Janvier Katabarwa based in Canada was named among the 100 best African films actors by Ranks Africa Magazine in 2023.

Katabwa became a movie star after appearing in the ‘Bullet Proof’ film along with world movie stars including Vinnie Jones and James Clayton produced by Lions Gate.

He is ranked as African top film star along with other local film actors: Ncuti Gatwa, Janvier Katabarwa, Isimbi Alliance [Alliah Cool], Bahavu Jeanette and Yuhi Amuli.

They’re all on the list of 100 best actors on the African continent in 2023.

About Katabarwa

Janvier Katabarwa, born in Rwanda, moved to Montreal, Canada at 19.

He engaged in various performance arts, including acting with the Genocide Survivors Students Association (AERG) Theatre troupe Inyamibwa, which focused on commemorating the 1994 genocide against Tutsi.

Starting karate at 11. He excelled and became the youngest athlete to join the national team. He also extensively trained in kickboxing, Kobudo, and Judo.

Despite studying accounting, Janvier’s passion for acting led him to Vancouver, where he aims to provide a platform for remarkable stories from Rwanda’s history. His ultimate goal is to portray Rwandan heroes and notable figures such as Yasuke, the black samurai.

Janvier’s breakout performance can be seen in “Bullet Proof,” where he played The Frenchman and performed his own stunts alongside Vinnie Jones and James Clayton. The film was released globally by Lionsgate and Industry Works Studios.
